2026 HCS Once Upon a Mattress

Last musical for a while, and NOT Wizard of Oz. This is the Bluefield Campus and almost all of these kids were in Curtains, their musical I shot about six months ago. Back at the Whittier Theater and now I have a system here. I know where to park to unload my gear in two different entrances, avoiding using my heavy wagon on narrow stairs. Again we set up the green screen for individual photos, most giving me a headshot smile and a full body character pose. Many of the kids remembered me from before and that helps immediately with their comfort level. It also allows me to be a little more forceful/playful about getting the shots I need. In theater, time constraints are a big factor you know! We buzzed through the rehearsal without any real delays, probably because there wasn’t many costume changes. That and the fact that this campus is only 5th grade and up. (I believe) We didn’t have to wait for any forgetful Lollipop Guild kids who were in the back coloring is all I’m saying. I did have some trouble on the interior room scenes where the stage lighting cast some red banding across the image. I think it was a moving stained glass effect.
